  Photo of Alan HopperChairman: Mr Alan Hopper

Alan Hopper, is a former Royal Air Force pilot. He served in the RAF for 30 years, during which time he commanded a Chinook helicopter squadron and a large flying station in the West Midlands. He left the service in 1996 with the rank of Group Captain.

Alan was appointed a non-executive member of Somerset Health Authority in 1998 and Vice Chairman of Somerset Health Authority in 2000.

During this period he also served as a Family Health Services Complaints Convener. He is currently the Chairman of the Somerset Joint Strategic Commissioning Board and Vice Chairman of the West Somerset Local Research Ethics Committee and a House Committee member of the RBL Dunkirk Memorial House.

Alan lives in Kilve, Somerset and is married with three grown up children.

Peter Berman - Non-Executive Director

Peter Berman was Chief Executive of Taunton Deane Borough Council for fifteen years and was the lay Member on the Taunton & Area Primary Care Group. He has been a panel member of a Department of Health Inquiry.

He takes an active interest in community matters in his home town of Wiveliscombe, where he is a Parish Councillor and Secretary to the Wiveliscombe Area partnership and the Wiveliscombe Civic Society.

Peter’s interests include town twinning and walking. He is a member and past President of the Wiveliscombe Rotary Club.

Barrie Dale - Non-Executive Director

Barrie Dale lives in Wellington and has many years experience working in local government. He was Borough Housing Officer and Assistant Chief Executive with Taunton Deane Borough Council from 1985-1999.

Barrie is an Associate Lecturer, specialising in the delivery, financing and legal aspects of public services. He has undertaken research and project management contracts relating to social policy and is a non executive member for a number of organisations providing residential and community services for the elderly.

Andrew Govier - Non-Executive Director

Andrew Govier has lived in Wellington all of his life. He has worked for the Ministry of Defence and the Charity Commission.

Andrew is currently a full-time councillor serving Wellington Town, Taunton Deane Borough Council and Somerset County Council.

He is married with two children and a school governor at Wellesley Park and Beech Grove Primary Schools in Wellington.

Philippa Hawks - Non-Executive Director

Philippa Hawks lives on the Somerset Levels at Burrowbridge. She has worked for BBC Television as a Production Assistant making drama programmes and with the BBC's Natural History Unit in Bristol.

Philippa has spent the last 28 years working as a volunteer in the community, including as a Magistrate in Bridgwater, with the Community Council for Somerset, school governor and latterly as a member of the Somerset Community Health Council.

Dr Jonathon Meads - Non-Executive Director

Dr Jonathon Meads was a general practitioner at the Blackdown Practice in Hemyock for 32 years. He retired in 2000 and now undertakes voluntary work on behalf of the charity, Somerset Cancer Care - an organisation he helped to establish 12 years ago.

Jonathon and other volunteers from Somerset Cancer Care, run patient focus groups at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital. The views and experiences of cancer patients are gathered and assist with the future planning of services and improvements in the quality of care.

Ann Papworth - Non-Executive Director

A teacher by profession, Ann studied music at Durham University and subsequently taught at a primary school in Brixton. She formerly lived in London and was Head of Art with the Decca Record Company.

For the past eleven years Ann has lived in Churchinford with her husband and four children.  She is currently a parish councillor.
