Community Hospitals

Services provided include: out-patient care, minor surgery, rehabilitation, and care for older people and for patients being monitored by their GPs. They form a link between GP and community nursing services and the resident population of Taunton Deane.

GPs will care for any of their patients referred to a community hospital.

Community hospitals may also provide

  • Rehabilitation services

  • Care for the terminally ill

  • Care for the profoundly physically disabled

  • Day hospital services

  • A base for community nursing services

  • Outpatients clinics offering physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and medical aids

  • Care of elderly people with mental illness

  • Respite care

  • Casualty services - treatment of minor injuries

Respite care and care of the terminally ill complements the specialist service provided at Taunton & Somerset Hospital and at St Margaret's Hospice in Taunton.
