Membership
We would like as many people with an interest in mental health and well-being in Somerset to become Members of the NHS Foundation Trust.
Members can be drawn from service users, carers, staff and local people who have an interest in the work or the development of the NHS Foundation Trust.
In line with national guidance we plan, as well as people living in Somerset, to allow anybody who lives in England and Wales, who has an association with the Partnership Trust or wishes to know more about the work of the Partnership Trust, to apply to become a Member of the NHS Foundation Trust. This is because we have a wide range of services and often provide treatment for people from outside of Somerset. We also believe it is important to allow the friends, relatives and neighbours of people who use our services – and who are not direct carers of service users – to have their say in how services should be developed.
The proposals outlined in the consultation document include two main membership categories – a Public or Local Community category and a Staff
category and members will elect representatives on the Members Council.
We are keen to ensure good representation on the Members Council and therefore propose to divide the public members categories into six areas, five based on the district council boundaries within Somerset and one national group for England and Wales. The district council boundaries are:
-
West Somerset;
-
Sedgemoor;
-
Mendip;
-
Taunton Deane;
-
South Somerset.
The Partnership Trust is keen for young people to be represented in the Membership and would also look to have young people represented on the Members Council.
In addition to representatives from the Public or Local Community and Staff
categories, places on the Members Council will also be allocated to representatives of organisations
which have a close relationship with the NHS Foundation Trust, including: Somerset County Council,
representatives of Somerset District Councils, Somerset Primary Care Trust,
a representative of local Acute NHS Trusts/NHS Foundation Trusts and other statutory partner organisations.
We see this as an important opportunity to involve service users, carers, staff and the local community, including voluntary groups, in the way we do things and we hope members will contribute to the development of our plans for the futur
If you are interested in becoming a Member please fill in and return the membership form.
Further details on membership and membership categories are outlined in the consultation document.
