The Somerset Partnership NHS and Social Care Trust has established over recent years, a national reputation for providing high
quality services to its service users, carers and families. We also have a reputation for innovation and best practice – we
were the first Partnership Trust in the country – bringing together health and social care services to provide an integrated service.
We have continued to build on that spirit of innovation and best practice in the development and delivery of services and systems
that support the work of the Partnership Trust.Authorisation by Monitor on 1st as Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
provides a new opportunity for us to build on the successes and achievements of recent years. We believe that as an
NHS Foundation Trust we will bring real benefits to the people who use our services and staff working in the Partnership Trust.
NHS Foundation Trusts whilst being independent statutory organisations still remain part of the NHS and are subject to
NHS standards and the values of the NHS ensuring free healthcare based on need and not the ability to pay.
As Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust we gain new powers and financial freedoms, which will enable us to respond more
quickly and develop services to meet the needs of our service users, carers, staff and the local community.
For us, however, the most important feature in being an NHS Foundation Trust is that it gives local people – service users,
carers, staff working in our Trust and people in the local community - who have an interest in our work, the opportunity to
have a real say in how mental health and learning disability services will be run and developed in Somerset
