Victoria Hospital was established in 1899. Within that time it has seen
a great many changes but nothing to compare with recent times. It is
one of four hospitals within the Mendip Primary Care Trust.
Frome is an important market town with a population of 30,000
people. The hospital provides services to patients registered with four
local GP practices. Frome Medical Practice in Frome, Locks Hill
Practice in Frome, St Luke's Practice, Beckington and Mendip Country
Practice in Coleford.
Frome has a fairly young population. However, the number of elderly
residents is rising and this is reflected in the type of patients that
the hospital mostly serves. The patients enjoy the facility of a
conservatory and meals are cooked on site.
Victoria Hospital is looking forward to and working towards its
redevelopment. It has a very pro-active Medical Liaison Group, chaired
by a local GP. The 'Friends of Frome' are presently fund-raising for
the new hospital which we hope to be built in the year 2006.
