The Unit is committed to making evaluation relevant and accessible for users and to ensure that findings are presented in ways that can help services to take informed decisions about the delivery and development of services.

Annual Report 2003

A summary of evaluation taking place in 2003 for the Sure Start Taunton programme.
Consultation with Parents April 2002 A questionnaire survey carried out with parents in the Sure Start Taunton area in order to inform the planning stage of Sure Start Taunton.
Community Questionnaire Report and Summary 2003 A report looking at the results of a large scale postal survey in the Sure Start Taunton area in order to provide an baseline and planning information for the Sure Start programme.
Young Persons Health Drop In Report 2003 A questionnaire study carried out with young people in schools to establish the need for a young persons health drop in.

Home-Start Evaluation 2005 Home-Start is a national voluntary organisation who provides parent support and befriending. Sure Start Taunton provides funding to Home-Start in the Taunton Deane area to help support parents locally. Sure Start Taunton has commissioned the Community Evaluation Unit to carry out an evaluation of the Home-Start work that they fund.
Speech and Language Screen 2004-2005 This study is looking at the provision of early intervention to young children when it is required.
Baby Swimming Project Baby Swimming is one of the groups offered by the Sure Start Taunton programme. It is available to families with children aged between 6 and 12 months old. The main aims of the group are to improve parents’ emotional, mental and physical health as well as to provide a peer support network. This reports looks at how this has been achieved.
Childminding Network Between 1989 and 2000 the national figures for registered childminders in England was in steady decline. Childminding networks have been established through Sure Start programmes in order to provide support for childminders’ development and to improve retention in the field. Sure Start Taunton’s Childminding Network was established in 2003 to support, assess and provide training for local childminders and this report demonstrates how this has been achieved.

Peers Early Education Programme Evaluation

A report investigating whether the Sure Start Taunton PEEP group impacts upon parents’ feelings, perceptions and confidence levels around their children’s development and learning.

Evaluation Of The Nurture Group

An evaluation of the Sure Start funded Nurture Group is located in the NCH Family Centre, Halcon, and run by NCH staff.

Parent Participation Evaluation Sure Start Weston-super-Mare is a round 4 programme who has recently established a new community building in partnership with a range of providers. Given the recent policy changes (e.g. Every Child Matters), it was felt to be an important time for the programme to review parent participation to date, the potential factors that can influence whether participation is successful, and to consider how to build on the participation culture that has been established.
